Hello,

I work in a small Aerospace company and I need help with a DFARS compliant order. A customer has requested Al. Alloy 7075 -T73511 per AMS-QQ-A-200/11. To obtain the required material, our vendors could only get it through a country that is not DFARS compliant. However, this is aluminum alloy and from everything I have read, it is not a specialty metal. Though the only DFARS specialty metal index list I could find, does not have 7075-T73511 listed on it.
When reading about this specific Al. Alloy it states it is a aerospace used metal. So now we are back at the question, does this fall under needing to be DFARS compliant?

Thank you for any help you can give!!

I apologize if I put this question in the wrong forum.

That's the kind of thing your customer has to be involved with. Sounds like they spec'd the impossible.

Unless the customer references a specific DFAR requirement by its full number this alloy is not a DFAR issue. Now having said that if the order documentation specifically requires that you procure Aluminum Alloy 7075-T73551 per AMS-QQ-A-200/11 it must comply but country of origin is not an issue.

If customer has specified DFARS 252.225-7014 for this alloy and it is not one of the define specialty metals listed in 7014, again there should not be an issue with country of origin but you should respond in your quote that ordered alloy is not subject to DFAR 252.225-7014 control. If customer only listed 252.225 you must request that they also give you the sequence (sections) number (7014 specialty metals) as Section 252 Subpart 255 has 99 sections to it.
