KPI Project help - Business and Management Degree

LouiseCam

I am currently in the last stages of completing a Foundation Degree in Business and Management and am writing a project on KPI's and performance management. I am carrying our primary research and would appreciate help from the group in participating in a short questionnaire. These are open ended questions but I am desperate for participation so any short answers or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to help with my research please answer the questions below:-

  1. Do you think performance appraisals play a key part in monitoring performance and motivating employees?
  2. How do you use KPI?s to improve employee and organisational performance?
  3. How do you link KPI?s to organisational strategy and cascade throughout the organisation?
  4. Do you think linking KPI?s with performance bonuses or rewards is a motivational factor for employees?
  5. What sort of bonuses/rewards do you offer to your employees and do you think they are affective in improving performance and motivating them?

Thank you in anticipation of your help in this project.

Quite Involved in Discussions
* most are a waste and do little to help the company or the employee improve or attain their goals
* mostly used as a hammer with only short term gains
* Should be Vision, Mission and KPI-must be aligned, attainable, communicated, understood, reviewed and a part of the organizational culture
* only short term- need to relate directly to the achievement
* most companies $$$

LouiseCam,

Your questions reflect a common but outmoded philosophy that ignores the impact that leadership and the organizational process-based management system has on the performance of the organization instead of individual employees.

1. Instead of monitoring employee performance, we now monitor process performance and how well the management system is helping employees to plan, operate, control, monitor and improve processes.

2. Processes may have KPIs but not individual departments or employees; doing so would push employees or departments to work against the interests of the organization and its processes that serve customers.

3. Money may prompt employees to motivate themselves (motivation comes from within) if the top four motivators are ignored and money is not a good motivator once a certain threshold is fulfilled.

4. Being consulted, making a difference, having a strong sense of purpose and working to our innate strengths enables us to share organizational success, project success and process team success but never the success of an individual over the whole.
