Glad to hear it, Jennifer! It's a big relief, isn't it!
Oh yeah it is, very much so. But honestly, compared to the Big Ice Storm this is all kid's stuff, just a reason to feel vexed about things. We don't have critical medical equipment to depend on or anything like that.

It's just nice to rejoin civilization.

In 1998 it was the worst because temperatures dropped to about zero F right after we lost power, and stayed that way for about 2 weeks. Our wood stoves kept us home - one in the living room, the other was a big antique wood cook stove in the kitchen, with which I cooked all the thawing food in the refrigirator and freezer. We didn't think of putting the food outside in the snow to keep it cold!

My dad is in Springfield, Mass. They lost power and they are predicting a week without power. He seems to be fine but he has no water due to the fat he is on a well. That poor city (Springfield) has been hit hard this year. Blizzard earlier in the year, Tornado, Hurricane, and now an early blizzard.

Southeast PA got off fairly easy (this stuff has become "normal" anymore). I drive by North Wales PA on my morning commute.

Lost power for ~12 hrs, not long enough to freeze the pipes. Throw a party, get lots of folks in a room together with candles and it kept pretty toasty.

Bed with a couple extra blankets...then the power comes back on at ~2AM and the clock radios default to full volume. At least we knew the power was back!

A lot of plant damage. trees don't like it when they have lots of leaves to hold the snow weight. Lost a whole lot of limbs, and many trees down in the roads. Very inconvenient, but nothing like being out for week.

Off to FL this afternoon...seems like heaven.

27.5" here in SW New Hampshire. Just to the east of us got hit hard with power outages (250,000 without electricity). The power company in this area had done alot of tree cutting over the summer in preparation for something like this. Seems to have worked out. Only 140 days until the first day of spring!

All this is happening spookily close to Halloween. Has anyone seen the TV adaption of Stephen King's 'Storm Of The Century'?

Apologies but I'm still in Halloween mode. One of our great BBC radio stations (Radio 4 Extra) is serialising some MR James ghost stories every day this week and I'm really enjoying them.
