Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) - Checklists/Guidance

Hello everyone!

Recently I have been tasked with assessing the compliance of all of our locations compliance with C-TPAT. The scope of these assessments will only comprise the individual site not the company as a whole. I will be looking at things like fencing, procedures, etc only preformed or present at the site.

Rather than reinvent the wheel I figured I'd draw on other's experience. Does anyone know of any good sites with checklists or guidance documents for this type of thing. Documents that define exactly what a container is, what portions of the site the assessment should cover, etc. I have the Supply Chain Security Best Practice Catalog but it seems a little more lengthy than what I'm looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, King:bigwave:

It's helpful if you spell out acronyms and abbreviations for the benefit of ignorant folks like me:read:

In this case, my friend Google tells me that C-TPAT stands for Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism. I know nothing about it, but there is useful information here, and perhaps some fellow Covers will be able to give firsthand advice.

Unfortunately the google search has produced minimal amount of useable material. The majority of results point to the CBP website where the orginal regulation is hosted and in my opinion unclear guidance or consultant websites.

Hello KingoftheAges,

Very Sorry! We at The Cove always try to be as helpful as possible, but please understand that we do not have all the answers. You may have to do some more "digging" and we will do likewise. Don't give up, there's a lot you can benefit from here at The Cove.

Re: C-TPAT Checklists/Guidance

Hiya King,

What I do for my CTPAT audits is use the "Musts" and "Shoulds" from the CTPAT requirements (attached). Then I check the facility's documentation against that and then verify that the procedures are being followed.

It's worked well for the 2 years I've been doing it.

Good luck.
Rosie

Re: C-TPAT Checklists/Guidance

We have recently completed our C-TPAT validation with favorable results. The document I used as a guideline is the "Supply Chain Security Best Practices Catalog". This document is free to download from the CBP website and provides clear understanding of what the inspectors expect to find when they assess your site.
The best thing to do is to carefully read the catalog from front to back.

Good Luck!

Hello to all,

We are prepairing to go throught the C-TPAT audit in the next couple of months. Could someone please give me an idea as to what the inspectors were asking, what did they want to see and how the audit was conducted?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon :) :thanx:

Sorry, we've only done corporate and local audits. We haven't been audited by Customs yet. I'd be interested in how yours goes...

Thank you for the reply, Our parent company went throught an internal audit. The results were mixed. We were expecting the audit team to come here, but not a word as of yet. Now that we know the Feds will be here, we are trying to get what information we can to get ready. I will post the results as soon as we receive them.

We are still looking for any info about the audit if anyone can share that with us.

Thank you. :thanx:
