What is the general mission from processing customer complaints?
Is it to receive, handle, and resolve customer complaints or protect customer rights?

What customer rights are you referring to? In general, at least in the US, customers are responsible for protecting their own rights. Companies are bound by legal and regulatory requirements regarding defective products and warranty issues.

Hello,
I'd suggest that the mission of processing customer complaints is to provide input into continuous improvement.
It's one of the sources of your corrective / preventive activity and thus continuous improvement.

In the medical device industry complaints must be processed in a uniform and timely manner. In general this is good practice in any industry. As noted by one of our colleagues, using it as input to your continuos improvement effort is probably straightforward enough with an aim to reduce the frequency and severity of complaints made.
