Duh.

I meant to vote for Wiki and hit the forum choice instead. Duh. :bonk:

(Marc, is there a way to change a vote?)

Anyway, a Wiki would be easier to use because a definition could be submitted and then edited by any cove member as needed. The collective knowledge of the cove could be used to refine, expand, provide examples and so on.

In a forum, someone submits a definition and then that's it. If there a correction or addition you'd have to find the post (or several posts) that addresses it.

Wiki's are also easier to search.

For a good idea of what a wiki can become, go check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

By the way, if there any experienced Wiki users here, any 'tutorial' you can give in this thread will be appreciated.

I like the idea of a 'Cove Wiki'. There are lots of possibilities.

Just started exploring Wiki a few weeks back. Loads of possibility. Here's a link to get people started. WIKIpedia:FAQ - First things first with Definitions and Acronyms, but I think a BoK could develop in a WIKI too.

I'll look but not that I know of. I'll have to look at the database and see if I can change it there. But no big deal - We all know so we'll take it into consideration.

I voted "wiki" because I'm curious as heck and need to have a wiki where I might learn and be able to contribute - what better place than the Cove?

Wow! I don't know if someone like me should be allowed to even "read" wikis. I clicked on a FAQ link in the thread above and found myself one hour later, still clicking links within the wikipedia site.

The closest thing I can imagine is living in the stacks in a major university library. I remember once staying in the stacks for over 30 hours straight, pulling book after book off the shelves to check the original material when I came across a quote or paraphrase as I researched my dissertation.

I was young then. I wonder if my health [or my marriage] will stand so much time at the computer console.

I LOVE wiki - will my wife understand?

No previous experience with Wiki. It's a tough job either way... A combination of both perhaps?

A Wiki is definitely not a forum. One 'compaint' I have is that, for example, there's no index.

I'm tending towards a specific forum. That way you can see a listing of what's there, sort alphabetically and such. One response in this thread says a wiki is easier to search. I don't see that - Especially when the vBulletin 3.5 version is out (within a month I think - it's in beta test now) where full text search, boolean functions and such are enabled.
