Under section 3.1.6 it references finishing services. We currently have a supplier that only: cleans, preserves and packages our product. Do they fall into that category? Will they be required to be third party registered to ISO 9001:2000?

Please help me here, this supplier is in the same building (Same owner) but they also do services for other Customers. The owner does not want the hassle of them becoming either ISO or TS.

Hello,

from my point of view through my experience, YES, cleaning, preserving and packaging forms part of the finishing services in the automotive context.

As such, this supplier who supplying this services falls within the automotive supply chain.

Now, whether this supplier require to be ISO9K registration depends on these 2 criteria:-
(1). If this supplier is not located in the same premises of your organization (site), then they need to be ISO9K registered, unless otherwise specified by your customer.

(2). If this supplier is located in the same building, then it has to be interpreted that it is extended process of your organization (site). Then, this supplier no need to be certified to ISO9k, BUT, their processes will be audited as well during the ISO/TS Stage 2 audit. This supplier will not get a stand-alone ISO/TS certificate but their processes will be stated and described in the audit report. (In short: the ISO/TS auditor interpret the supplier processes as part of the site processes).

However, the best advice is, please check with your CB on this. They will be able to advice more accurately since they need this info for man-day calculation.

Hope, this info is helpful for now.

Ramaness.
