The logic board went out on my iMac (my "main" computer). I am on a substitute for 24 to 48 hours. Because this computer isn't configured the same and has a 15" screen is making it a bit difficult to keep up. I'll keep you informed in this thread on developments. Apple says today or Friday, but we'll see.

I also had company which also put a dent in my time, not to mention running to the Apple store during rush hour and all that stuff.

If anyone has an immediate need problem, please call me at 513 341-6272.

Re: 6 October 2011 - I'm behind

I'm about caught up now. Switching systems you're used to really makes a difference in keeping up. At least I did have a backup system ready.

Now to do battle with Apple. The warranty expired 5 days ago, but technically I didn't receive the iMac until 5 October 2008. They started the warranty on the date the iMac was *ordered* (30 Sept 2008) rather than the date received. The logic board is US$600+, so I'm not a happy camper.

Talk about lousy timing... Well, good luck talking to them.

Yeah... I wonder if it is conageous? I had to dish out on a new screen last Saturday. It just said "beep!" and proceeded to display eternal darkness forever after...

Bummer. Mine went fast, too. Kernel panic and that was it. It would boot, run for a minute or so and then kernel panic/freeze.

I can't get them on the phone (the Apple people out west) to argue the warranty timing. Says the office is closed but it is business hours for the Apple Care people. I'm wondering if they shut down for the day because of Job's death.

Did your Apple die in sympathy with the death of Steve Jobs? Maybe that's eerie enough to send as a story idea to Steven King.:mg:

I don't know what time he died, but I have to admit I hadn't thought of that.

I did just talk to them and they said it should be ready to pick up later today. They have the logic board in stock and it's in line for a tech to install it.

Re: 6 October 2011 - I'm behind

Alas, no joy. I spoke with the local Apple store around 6PM last night and was told they have the part and the job is "priority" but none of the techs there were qualified to put a logic board in so they were trying to get someone in to do it. They're either lying or inept with an excuse like that.

So - I guess I'll pick it up today when the Apple store opens and take it to a local authorized Apple repair shop which has done repairs for me before. I should have done that in the first place, but they are only open 8 to 5 and it was too late to get it there on Wednesday. I know the tech there and he can replace a logic board.

Sheesh...

Turns out Apple starts the warranty clock running when you purchase the product. In my case since the order was placed on the Apple web site on 30 Sept 2008, even though I didn't actually receive it until Oct 5th, warranty is expired.
