Measurement system analysis "shall be conducted to analyze the variation..."

Hi!

I had a question regarding MSA's.

The new standard (IATF 16949:2016) states that measurement system analysis "shall be conducted to analyze the variation present in the results of each type of inspection, measurement, and test equipment system identified in the Control Plan"

With that said, would we need to conduct MSAs on stop watches that we use since they are "measuring" time?

Is the measurement of time being used to control a part of your process? If so, then yes, you would need to do an MSA.

Be prepared to do it on everything including vision and feel. Although the note suggests you can prioritize.
