Words or phrases that need to be removed from auditing.

Caster suggested this as a separate post in another thread.

I stated that "for reference only" should be removed from our quality vocabulary.

"the registrar said we had to do it that way"

Here are the rules:
1.) If a term or definition is defined in a standard, then it is not for consideration.
2.) Either as an auditor or an auditee, give your :2cents:

Great idea, Caster. Ok, the rest of you.....let 'er rip!

I recommend removing - or at least reducing the term quality, because pointing out opportunities too easily makes well meaning people feel like they are failures. The term is more like an outcome, but too often it's used as one of the inputs or factors - that confuses people.

Thanks for your participation. Quality is defined in ISO 9000:2005.
3.1.1 quality "degree to which a set of inherent characteristics (3.5.1) fulfils requirements (3.1.2)."

Why?:D What about if the instrument is not calibrated, how am I suppose to refer to the instrument? "The instrument that was formerly calibrated"?:tg:

If I segregate raw material, or purchase raw material for experimental purpose, am I not supposed to put a label or identify it in some way?:)

I once worked in a politically correct organization that refused to use the terms 'segregated', 'segregation' when referring to nc product....

If we are to remove 'value added', then we must also remove 'compliance' 'conformance' etc. IMHO! Not all audits have to be done to 'add value'! some are simply compliance. It depends on the purpose of the audit.:notme:

Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.....
I love it, Andy. At one ASQ meeting, some guys had put together a video/song called "The Stairway to Kaizen". It was so great.:lmao:

From the auditee (usually a member of the management team):

'Just wait there a second while I get my baseball bat...'
