Calibrating Panel Mounted Pressure Gauges located on Hydraulic Test Stands

Currently when calibrating panel mounted pressure gauges located on hydraulic test stands, we use the test stand spray pumps for a source of pressure when calibrating.

As you know this makes me want to pull my hair out as it is so hard to control the pressure while dealing with the pulsating of the pump.

I have been looking into buying a hydraulic hand pump to eliminate this. I just can't make up my mind what make or model number I need to buy. I'm calibrating gauges up to 5,000 psi.

My next issue is fluid cross contamination. Our test stands have 5606 Red oil, Skydrol 500B and Solvent 1202. I’m thinking that I need some sort of double action piston connected to the hand pump that would allow me to change out the different media and avoid contamination.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Contact the manufacturer of the pressure you are calibrating. They no doubt have had others who had similar problems, and would know what type of device might be appropriate and where it might be purchased.

Thanks, Im sure the tanks would help out but some of the stands are very old and do not hold steady pressure either. This is why I want to isolate the gauges from the test stands pumps using a hand pump as a source of pressure.
