Hi All,

I am looking for calibration method for dial thermometer gauge, please if someone could help.

The dials are in range from 0-200 deg C and 0-400 deg C.

Thanks.

Are you talking about Calibration or Verification (sometimes erroneously termed in-house calibration)?

Hello,

I might used incorrect term. Suppose to call it verification. I have 20 units to verify against master device which is sent out to be calibrated by external lab.

Do you have any calibration equipment like a recirculating oil bath or a dry block calibrator?

What kind of accuracy are you seeking to measure?

Hello,

I do not have any. I read somewhere that the device should be verified against master device,in a hot oil (I am not sure what kind of oil) at 3 different temperatures: 85 C, 175 C and 225 C. I am not sure whether this procedure is correct.

Oil at those temperatures, or any fluid for that matter, is nothing to fool around with, especially if you are not experienced. Better to send it out for 2- or 3-point calibration. Get it with data (more expensive) or without (less).
A stirred bath and all that goes with the process (fume hood, etc.) will cost you thousands upon thousands.
Let thermometry professionals handle it.

May I ask what type of dial thermometer? Some folks say you could stick your finger into tepid water and better guess the temperature. Will they meet your needs?

You can use the attached for information and as a reference. You have to answer the question on the kind of accuracy you need and the usual temperature range that you use for further decisions..
