Reopening a Closed Division - Multi-division tier 2 automotive supplier

T

Teri - 2011

Hi all,
Long story, short. Multi-division tier 2 automotive supplier. Have been TS registered for over 6 years. In early 2009 we shut down one division, moved those jobs to another division and dropped the TS certificate (cost savings while the auto industry was in trouble). Now, automotive (at least us) is getting busy again. We want to reopen the division that was shut down and get it registered again (customer requirement).
Do we have to "start all over again" with TS?
If we make it a division of an existing division still open would it make a difference?
Yes, I have called my registrar with these questions, can't seem to connect.

thanks!!

Re: Return of a division

If you have few divisions why not attempt to have a single certificate with any one location being the lead site and the rest remote locations. You can common some processes and apply across all divisions and at same time let the divisions independently manage their internal processes. Some smart work and good interaction and communications needs to be established.

If we did that, would each division have a certificate with the division name on it? For some reason (and I can't remember why) we discussed this option at the get go of TS and decided against it.
All of our divisions use the same quality manual and procedures, with site specific W.I. So documentation wouldn't be an issue.

It seems strange that you'd have a problem trying to connect with your registrar....are we talking days or hours? Are you talking phone tag, or just no response?

Leaving messages on cell phones (with no response yet). Called their office, but of course, the "scheduler" can't answer my question. Yes, getting frustrated with it also. Been trying for about a week.

You will have one certificate with all the sites listed in them, perhaps with the scope applicable at each site appearing alongside. Seems to me that you are in some way prepared for it based on what you say about common manual and procedures.
What are your considerations to go against this single certification ? Though you will not have any cost or audit mandays relief in this process when compared to seperate QMS certification, you will indeed not repeat things which gives to added value. As I believe. if the management is ONE, ideally the QMS can also be ONE, and with this the certification body is also same for all divisions.

Hi !

1st, if your certification company doesn't asnswer and you get long times to reach them, then change them. No need to wait. A serious company is always answering you. Have you tryied all the contact ways ?

2nd, if you said you were certified before and the comapany didn't change (purchased by others, merged, etc.), then why worry about it ? Should be the same as last time.

As far as I know, you will need to be recertified for that specific location.
