What does this clause exactly require for supplier monitoring?

If your internal auditors are not competent to perform second party audits of your suppliers, the answer is yes.

Our auditors have not performed supplier audits. That was always done by our purchasing people.

So assign purchasing people as second party auditors, assuring compliance to competence requirements stated in 7.2.4 and that's all.

I just had my Stage 1 audits and asked my auditor about this. As long as your suppliers are 3rd party certified, you do not need to perform the 2nd party audits.

Thanks for the input. All of my suppliers are 3rd party certified. That was always a basic requirement.
