Customer Authorization for Concession - IATF 16949 Clause 8.5.1.1

It states in IATF16949 that "The organization shall obtain customer authorization prior to further processing or “use as it” and rework dispositions of nonconforming product. If sub- components are reused in the manufacturing process, that sub-component reuse shall be clearly communicated to the customer in the concession or deviation permit"

I have two questions concerning this,

(1) Is sorting a kind of rework? We have to sort some models due to unstable process that can't be solve in the short term.

(2) We also assemble mirrors for automotive, which contains many components. If there are some nonconformities, we rework the part and some components are re-used. According to the new requirements, we need to obtain customer deviation for it , am I right?

thanks in advance.

You still have to evaluate the risk of your NC to the customer before obtaining a concession.

First, please correct clause number is 8.7.1.1

(1) Is sorting a kind of rework?
No, it is not. Rework is "manufacturing-type" activity applied on parts found nonconforming during inspection activity (e.g. sorting). Rework results in full conformity of these parts.

(2) ...we rework the part and some components are re-used. According to the new requirements, we need to obtain customer deviation for it , am I right?
According to my answer and your explanation you do not perform rework, but "sub-component re-usage" so you shall ask your customer for approval for concession or deviation permit.

There is also a problem in case of rework, as there is a conflict of requirements between 8.7.1.1 and 8.7.1.4, what was reported here and discussed here
I hope, IATF will correct it soon.

Could someone help define 'reuse' of sub-components? 8.7.1.1 "If sub-components are reused in the manufacturing process, that subcomponent reuse shall be clearly communicated to the customer in the concession or deviation permit."

If the sub-component is per print (and not non-conforming), does this clause apply?

thanks in advance!
