IATF 16949 Cl. 4.3.2 - Customer Requirements vs. Customer Specific Requirements

In the IATF auditor training they try to make a clear distinction between the two terms:

Customer Requirements are generally product or order-specific requirements. An example would be a tolerance on a customer-supplied drawing.

Customer Specific Requirements are quality management system requirements. These are system requirements that are supplemental to IATF 16949. Generally these are compiled by the customer into a single document. The documents Sidney linked to would be examples.

So what would you call PPAP details specifically laid out in the terms of a PO?

I had always tried to make the argument that the customer had the responsibility to compile their requirements in a manual like those referenced. That stopped working several years ago as customer specific requirements became more of an issue. These days we have to search the world over for their requirements. A real PIA.

Ah yes - the customer terms and conditions document referred to in their P.O. that is not on their website where they said it would be, and nobody there is familiar with the contents of the document.

And then they say " What do you mean we require that ? Where are you getting that from ? "

Interesting Purchase Order for its Terms and Conditions

If the PPAP details were specific to the order, then I'd say customer requirements. If the PPAP details are general and apply to all orders and products then I'd say customer-specific requirements.

Admittedly some customers can blur the line by being vague or inconsistent.

How David,

In IATF 16949:2016, you should consider "Customer Specific requirements" as the additional requirements for "Quality Managements System". This will include two aspects:
1) Customer Specific Requirements" which is published in IATF website.
2) OEM's specific requirements on "supplier quality system", such as GM BIQS or QSB, VW Formel Q, Ford Q1 etc.

As for customer requirements, it is a general statement which can include everything that customer requires, like, quotation, drawing, specification, procedures...

I had no problems in the past with different certification body for ISO/TS16949.

Best Regards,
Johnson

How can I differentiate between customer requirements and customer-specific requirements? I read the definitions in IATF 16949 but could use some help interpreting.
:thanks:
David
I just joined the group but noticed your question is over 2 years old. Not sure my input is still useful. I am a 3P auditor and have just written a book for sharing on IATF 16949 compliance. My answer to your question is attached. You can download the full book, it is free.
