IPC 620 updating from Class 1 to Class 3

My company has decided to update our production facility from a standard of IPC620 Class 1 compliance to IPC 620 Class 3. I am trying to figure out what we need to focus on to make this happen in the next 6 months and be effective. Our engineering dept and PM's have agreed that everything CAN still be done to class 1 until decemember but that is where my concern is that we will not be getting better if we are given pass to continue with Class 1. Also if anyone has any info on section 19 Testing I am wondering what we need to do such as electrical and mechanical testing.

This is one of the most common questions we receive is, “What is the difference between IPC Class 1 vs. Class 3 assembly processes?”. How it's updated from time to time. As IPC/WHMA-A-620, as an industry consensus document, cannot address all of the possible product design combinations. The IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard prescribes practices and requirements for the manufacture of cable, wire and harness assemblies. However, the standard does provide criteria for commonly used technologies Where uncommon or specialized technologies are used, it may be necessary to develop unique acceptance criteria with its updated class. The IPC/WHMA-A-620 Revision C provides the electronics industry with the most current criteria for the performance and acceptance of cable and wire harness assemblies. This revision includes a synergy with IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001, aligning many of the requirements that are in common with IPC/WHMA-A-620.

If you are requesting a copy of the standard, that will not be possible. The document is copyrighted and the forum's rules do not allow it. You will have to purchase it from IPC.

If you have a specific question, you may ask it in a new thread.

Yes, you only have to buy it from IPC or else you can join the IPC A-620 training and certification course that helps you to get a copy of IPC/WHMA-A-620,(Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) along with IPC certificate of completion. This also helps you to be able to reference the IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard to make accept/reject decisions. In total, this course will be much beneficial to you instead of buying just a copy of IPC A-620 Standard.
