Single or Multi site Internal Audits - Any difference in how to carry out?

Apart from the number of sites how does multi-site and single site internal audits differ?

A recent thread asking about multi-site audits made me think about whether the multi-site way of working the internal audit is good for single site. By that I mean if you can't audit multi-sites against the complete standard in all sites so you don't but apply risk and importance criteria to audit what is most needed when needed. Shouldn't this same method apply to single sites?

Is there or should there be any difference in the approach???

This is the thread I was reading BTW.

Internal Auditing in a Multi-Site Environment

I think it all depends on how your organization and QMS are set up. Our corporate office handles most of the planning, sales, and HR functions. It gives corporate more control over the processes and keep them consistent throughout the organization. Other companies may have planning, sales, HR, and other functions performed at the individual sites. At a single site all the functions must be performed and clauses met at the one site.

As an aside the multi-site for external gives us a rotating three year audit schedule for our sites to ensure we meet the standard throughout the company.

Hope this helps a little.

Just for emphasis, you audit the activities that are present at each site. If one of the sites is only a warehouse that is involved with stocking, shipping, and receiving and nothing more, that's all that you audit.
