IATF16949 inputs/outputs & KPIs

Hello,

We are undergoing preparation for an IATF16949 certification audit, we are currently certified to TS16949:2009.

I had a question to do with inputs/outputs.

ISO 9001 4.4.1 requires inputs/outputs as well as performance indicators to be identified and maintained for each process.

IATF16949 identifies several requirements to maintain a documented process.

Some examples being:
· Product safety (4.4.1.2)
· Internal Auditor competency (7.2.3)
· Engineering specifications (7.5.3.2.2)
· Nonconforming product (8.7.1.7)
· Problem solving (10.2.3)
· Continual improvement (10.3.1)

My question is: In order to satisfy the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 4.4.1, Do we need to come up with inputs/outputs as well as KPIs for each of the items listed above since they are required IATF16949 processes?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

You raise an excellent question, but in my experience you do not need to show inputs/outputs/KPI's for all IATF-required documented processes. I counted 22 such requirements last year. ISO 9001 4.4.1 says "the organization shall determine the processes needed for the QMS....". So, for example, a support process of "Internal Audit" could include the requirements for establishment of internal auditor competency. In this case 2 of the 22 documented processes would be included as part of one overall process. Then the overall process of Internal Audit would have its inputs, outputs, and KPI's.

No, def not. There are no good KPIs for some of this stuff and it's so far down in the weeds you'd be wasting your time collecting the data. Keep to the things which a) affect the customers' need and expectations and b) your profitability.
