Hi

Can anyone kindly confirm if the defining of resource (people) roles and responsibilities is mandatory for ISO 9001 certification?

Thank you
Mike

Hi Mike, to state the obvious, clause 5.5.1 states that responsibilities and authorities shall be defined and communicated.

How you do it is up to you. Job descriptions are an option, but not mandatory. It often depends on the size and complexity of the organisation but you may have an organisation chart and then clarify the specific responsibilities in procedures and/or work instructions. You may use quality plans or project plans where specific responsibilities are defined and even minutes from meetings may define actions to be taken and the person responsible for doing so.
