Question Really do they add value (Vision, Mission, Values)?

Hi everyone

In trying the 2015 implementation, I see that some companies, use the terms vision, mission, values in ISO 9001, most of the times when doing strategic direction.

But also have seen that sometimes, the policy, the quality objectives and a good designed QMS are enough to guide a company to be successful.

So my question, Really is it worth to add these terms into the QMS?

Really, by inserting the terms into the QMS, would it move the system to other level?

A lot of times it is difficult to compromise people to understand the policy, objectives, kpis, processes, etc. and now we are adding more terms.

Donīt you think that in some cases these terms would cause confusion instead of being of help?

Or in which cases really they add value to organizations.

re: Really do they add value (Vision, Mission, Values)?

In my opinion, good quality objectives and a quality policy should be in line and very closely related to the mission and vision. Where I work, we have both because the mission and vision were well established far before any talk of ISO certification. In this case, it would have added more confusion to remove them.

But, I could see the quality policy being the 'vision' and the quality objectives being the 'mission'.

Either way you look at it, 4.1 of ISO 9001:2015 states, "The organization shall determine external and internal issues that are relevant to its purpose and its strategic direction and that affects its ability to achieve the intended results of its quality management system." So, in my opinion, whatever the labels are (mission and vision or quality policy and quality objectives), I do think they add value and should be present. It is up to you if you want to have two sets.
