Hi prasanna,

I can understand from your statement that you have studied process and u know some thing about SMED.
Before starting, i would like to recommend you an imporant book "SMED by Shigeo Shingo". Please read this book completely so that you know the importance of changeover time reduction.

Just ask these questions to your project work?
1.Have you given SMED awareness to concerned persons?... not a classroom session just a shop meeting is enough...Operators must know this because this study may cause resistance among operators...You have to tell them before conducting the initial changeover study about this study and ask them to work as normally they do everyday....otherwise you will not see the true picture....
2.Have you asked them for any problems they face during changeover and improvement suggestions ? I am telling you this because any improvement methodology must start from shopfloor (Gemba)
3.Have you done any improvment in material handling system?
4.Have you made any design changes in your tool or in the machine?
5.Have you made any improvement in passing information about changeover to concerned persons?
6.Have you studied possibility of horizontal deployment in other products

Finally dont try to implement everything in one go... give some breathing time and implement it gradually.. and make sure that the new system gets standardized...
Standardization means in production, supervisor will book losses in his report... changeover time should be noted and to booked as per the new improvement, that is if you manage to make changeover within 15minutes... every time it should be 15 minutes.

Wish you all the best your career...
Bye...
