hello! :)

if a process has one basic raw material, which in my case is giant rolls of tissue paper, and I want to specify the KIND of giant rolls I need on the mounting stands, can I use kanban cards?

so my question is: can I use kanban to specify HOW i want the raw material from the supplier instead of HOW MUCH?

Thank you in advance for any help you might offer! :thanx:

Being that kanban is not an inventory system but rather a 'trigger' scheduling system, so... if I understand your question, yes.
Kanban is not about quantity but rather the whole scope of production, what, when and how much. In your case, the how much is moot I guess.

In your case, if a single roll of tissue is all that can be supplied and consumed, but you have multiple types, your kanban sign/card/board/indicator or even a visual 'draw from location' can be the tool. Either could simply feature the SKU, item number, etc. so that workers know what to supply and when.

Hello,

This is my first post. Kindly bear with me if I make some errors. According to me, you can use kanban cards to specify what type of roll you need at the mounting stand. You can refer to case study of textile industry as reference.

First decide which type of paper is needed to be shipped at what date (Example: A type on 30th Jan). Calculate WIP required from mounting station to the shipping station (Example: 24 hours). In this way, you know that you need A type of raw material to the mounting station on 29th Jan. So, you can ask your supplier to work on it similarly.

Please comment on my thoughts. Hope this helps you.
