MTTR - MTBF - Machine History Card template form

Sushil Kumar

Hi Friends,
I had to put lot of efforts for readymade calculator for MTTR & MTBF but could not find. At last I prepare the calculator at my own & I am sharing with you as I understand this forum as knowledge share plateform. I also take help from cove members whenever I need.
With this sheet, we can prepare following reports with single entry.:
1) MTTR & MTBF
2) MIS Report
3) Machine History Card.
4) Priority of problems (under process)

Please read instructions before use.

Regards,

Sushil:agree1:

Dear Sushil Kumar,

Your spreadsheet was good, but password protection can be waived since we need to enter the details which is not happening, hope can be done

Hi Sushil,

Thanks for the great work, it took me some time to find your file and I was impressed by the efforts. Unfortunately I was not able to utilize it because it is developed to support industrial engineering and since my field is IT I needed to update it to address my project specifics. I was not able to update due to the file restrictions!

Are you planning to release the restriction sometime soon?

I am not detracting from the excellent work that went into the spreadsheet, but I do want to caution anyone that only has a cursory understanding of reliability and maintainability.

The number one misunderstanding about MTBF and MTTR is that, on average, you will have #,### hours/days/weeks/months between failures or to repair the equipment. This is totally incorrect. MTBF/MTTR is based on the Exponential distribution, not the normal distribution. The Mean is not 50% of the equipment. By the time you reach the calculated MTBF/MTTR value approximately 2/3 of the units will have already failed.

I would encourage you to use a different metric, such as L5/L10/L50 as appropriate. L# means the time at which #% of the equipment has failed/been repaired.
