How many days should our initial ISO14001 audit take? Two sites - 700 People

I'd be grateful for any feedback from fellow Covers, about how many days your initial ISO14001 audit takes. We have been speaking to a registrar that we are considering using. (We already use them for our ISO 9001 registration.) We were told that it is likely to take about 12-16 days auditing total for Stage 1 & Stage 2. This sounds like an awful long time to me. :mg:
We are a 2 site operation with about 300 on 1 site & 400 on the other. They are considering that we are a medium risk operation.
We might be going crazy after 3 weeks of auditing!!

They're going right off of Guidee 66 and you're looking at the prescribed amount of time.

Quite possible, but I expect they are talking about man-days? If so, the maximum 16 days would mean four mandays / site and audit. For 3-400 people sites, I think that sounds reasonable.

You're right Claes...the requirement is man-days (audit days) and the time quoted would include on and off-site time.

I attached a chart from the IAF Guide to ISO Guide 66, which is available free at this link.

The chart is used as a guidance for this type of determination. Hope this helps.

Yes, thanks, Sidney, for links to the "horse's mouth."
I was struck by how straightforward the Guide was in explaining the guidelines.

I'd like to ask if JLMorris feels he has a satisfactory answer. (even here in the Cove, we evaluate the Quality of our activity and look for Customer Feedback)
