Hi all. I have been asked to write the procedure for MSA This may be a big ask, but how do I start? I have the AIAG MSA 3rd edition, but I can't just quote that. Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Who will be using the document? If your organization already complies with the MSA manual, here's my suggestion: Make a process map or flow diagram of what you're already doing, then write the procedure (following the flow) to fill in the details in a way that will be useful to those who will be using the document.

I know it's a very generic answer, but that's pretty much my approach to writing any procedure.

Exapnding a bit on Howste's response, it's not clear whether you're trying to document an existing process, or design a new one. If the former is true, Howste's response is right on. If the latter is true, you're putting the cart before the horse. You need to develop the process first, then document it.

Thanks for both replies. Perhaps I should explain a little better. We, as a company are in the throes of formulating procedures for TS16949 prior to accreditation. As you know, part of the standard concerns Measurement System Analysis. This is where I come in. We have no procedure for MSA at present and so one needs to be written. I have a rough idea of what I need to put down, but just wondered if there was set format to follow?

TS 16949 doesn't require that you have a documented procedure for MSA, but it does require that you do it. Because writing a procedure is optional, there is no set format for one. If just using the customer MSA manual meets your needs, then I wouldn't write a separate procedure.

Are you already doing the things required for MSA?

OOh! thanks for that. Don't have to write a procedure eh! I'll have to put that one to my manager. As for doing MSA, well, sort of. I have done a few R & R's both anova and average and range. Trying to understand the anova ones. I will no doubt do some more posting on that subject. I have also done a couple of stability studies. Havn't got round to bias or linearity. Got that joy to come. Many thanks for your time.
