What are you using to manage Training Records

I am new with my company and don't know that much about ISO, however we are ISO 9001:2000 certified and they have asked me to find out what other companies are using for training documentation. We have an Excel spreadsheet we call "the beast" and are looking for an improvement (preferably electronic). Any softare packages out there or have you developed a manageable system?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: What are you using for Training Records

Hi All,

This is the best place I believe to post this question;

I have no problem with conforming to 6.2.2 of 9001 within the Production environment - all operators have comprehensive training records of on the job skills and training.

What records can be maintained with regard to Customer Service skills, IT Development, Support etc?

Help greatly appreciated !

Hello S. Thompson,

From ISO 9001:2000, Clause 6.2.2 e) maintain appropriate records of education, training, skills and experience (see 4.2.2)

You determine what "appropriate" means.

For someone in Customer Service, it could be a resume, a curriculum vitae, certificates of customer service classes attended, etc.
For someone in Information Technology (IT), it could be Microsoft certificates, or other software certificates, network training, vendor training certificates, etc.

Hope this helps a little.

Stijloor.

In addition we have staff sign a form which lists all those attending an internal training course.

Do you do any type of annual review with employees, where a supervisor or manager sits down and says, "you do these things really well, I'd like to develope your skills in these areas, and I'd like for you to learn these new things"? this can be a record showing that those skills have been evaluated.

I agree with steelmaiden. Moreover you develop your records in accordance to statutory and company requirements to continuously develop the individual's full potential. Ideally like Randy said you start with a blank sheet of paper, sketch out a matrix and list the parameters you want to measure the individual against.

Can anyone help answer the original question from BadBarb as to what software packages people here use for their training records? I have good Access skills but would prefer to buy an "off the shelf" solution that meets our needs and can be validated. An SAP solution would be even better. Thanks so much. :)
