Management review

This may sound like an odd question but how do most prove the meeting chair is adequately trained in the ISO and company QMS requirements?

I don't know why you should need to prove anything about competency in this regard; ye shall know them by their fruits. It might be helpful if you expanded a bit on your concern.

If training is the concern, then training records should do it. If competency, then some sort of historical review of performance should work.

The management review report submitted was missing some requirements and evidence which resulted in a minor finding. Auditor is asking how we will update the training program to ensure the "chair" is competent as part of the CA.

What kind of auditor?

What kind of auditor? If it's a CB auditor, they shouldn't be telling you how the issue should be fixed. It seems to me like review is needed to ensure that MR reports/minutes are adequate before they're filed. BTW, training doesn't ensure competence.

It is a CB auditor and I could not agree more with you. The reason for the post is to see if others actually train in this area. To me the proof is in the pudding.

I agree with Jim, the auditor has no business telling you how to fix the problem. The company's job is to determine the cause(s) and corrective action(s) required.

Maybe there is a "rest of the story" here? Exactly what was the wording of the NC, and did you respond yet?

So training doesn't equal competence. And this is an easy miss given all the MR requirements -- even a trained and competent person could make this mistake. The fix is simple -- a checklist/record which makes sure you hit all of the points laid out in the MR requirements. So easy even a Geico caveman can run your MR meeting. :)

All management really needs to be aware of is its roles & responsibilities. Quite honestly all the other is gobblety-goop they don't really need.
