ISO 9001 Compliant Project Quality Plan Requirements

The more I read ISO 9001 the more I learn and the more confused I become.

I have to submit a project quality plan "that complies with ISO 9001 2008" is how its worded, to the client for approval.

Problem - What do they mean by "complies with 9001." Do they mean all the sections of 9001 or do I address Note 1 of S 7.1 Planning of Product Realisation.

NOTE 1 A document specifying the processes of the quality management system (including the product realization processes) and the resources to be applied to a specific product, project or contract can be referred to as a quality plan.

I know I can seek a clarification from the client on this but I would just like to hear the thoughts of those who know more than I about these things.

Hi Kgott!
The Project Quality Plan is a great document, it allows you to define the scope and application, the granularity, and the tailoring of the enterprise level quality management system to the specific project's quality related requirements. Moreover it also allows you to "attach" quality related requirements origin from non enterprise level QMS sources , like from client QMS or other project related QM requirements in case of necessity.

So, first of all it allows you to puzzle together your project QMS from various sources.
As a consequence, the one creates it should be very aware of what does she/he do.

Moreover it also can include project quality goals, the definition when do you consider from the quality prospective, the project result is deliverable to your customer. It would require proper metric system.

I presume you had seen the various types and samples in the post attachments section.

If you are interested in the details, get a copy of: ISO 10005:2005 Quality management systems - Guidelines for quality plans. Various formats (tabular, flowchart, form & text) which are similar to what we have in the post attachments section are shown in the appendix.

Good questions. Who knows? I've seen such umbrella statements put in purchasing documents and, in many cases, the client didn't know what it meant. I've seen quality plans which were 'mini' versions of the QMS for a particular project, or plans which simply addressed how the product was going to be controlled from receipt at the company, through to shipping off to the client.
Quite different and a lot of work to come up with, one way or another. I'd suggest asking them what they'd like to see, before too long...
