3.6.6
correction
action to eliminate a detected nonconformity (3.6.2)
note 1 a correction can be made in conjunction with a corrective action (3.6.5).
Note 2 a correction can be, for example, rework (3.6.7) or regrade (3.6.8).
3.6.5
corrective action
action to eliminate the cause of a detected nonconformity (3.6.2) or other undesirable situation
note 1 there can be more than one cause for a nonconformity.
Note 2 corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence whereas preventive action (3.6.4) is taken to prevent
occurrence.
And I updated the thread title to make it more specfic.
Welcome to the Cove.
Correction / Corrective action / Preventive action - in reality many people confuse! / misinterpret! (In ISO 9001:2008 – no word correction)
The management responsible for the area being audited shall ensure that any necessary corrections and corrective actions are taken without undue delay to eliminate detected nonconformities and their causes.

Why not Prevention and Preventive action?
Is there also definition for PREVENTION? (Like corrections)(or we need to call only preventive action since it is to eliminate the potential nonconformity!)
— for English, The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary and The Concise Oxford Dictionary ;
ISO 9001:2004 - examples of source of corrective action / preventive action data consideration includes (many examples given on the page 43 & 44) but both clash each other. Say for example lesson learnt from past experience (Past is how - long / old! - one day one month, one year?) - so such case is not considered as to avoid occurrence or recurrence - can we call it as preventive action /or corrective action?
