Where's Termite?

Besides Steve Buckingham, the one Tosebo Camper that transends a similar era was Jim "Termite" Berquist, who also had two older brothers at the camp. I have heard that he attended college at Williams College, and my next-door neighbor will go through their Alumni organization to see if he can locate "Termite"

Here's a Termite story. We were on the Group I trip to Mackinac (which, sadly, you missed) and were on the ferry to the island. There was an old Indian gentleman and a boy we took to be his grandson passing the hat. The kid was dancing, granpa was playing the tom tom. The Tosebo group watched for a moment and then Jimmy politely asked if he could join. You recall how gifted a dancer he was. Anyway, he and boy began doing the hoop dance, and the place went nuts. I mean, those tourists were going ape ****. I'm sure grandpa made more money in those few moments than he did in the average day. It was special, magic.

Just because you were one of the "Group 1/ Tent 9&10 " I remeber you and I remeber Coach telling your Termite story on the trip to Mackinac. I seem to remember Coach saying the "real Indians" made Jim an honorary member of their tribe for his dancing display. THose are perhaps the treasured times at Camp Tosebo, when you found yourself alone with Coach and he would just tell stories Dave

The "Termite" has been found!

Jim Bergquist is living in Newton. Mass., and well hopefully be joining in our Forum. He claims to have lots of pictures, and I hope he can scan and share them.

He also will let his two older brothers (Steve: 55-56) and (Joel: 55-60?) in on it.

Hello all, this is James "Termite" Bergquist's daughter. My dad's an extreme technology-phobe, and shuns the computer (he still uses a typewriter), so all his e-mails go through me. I've been keeping him updated on the Tosebo mailings and encouraging him to write, but the prospect must be too terrifying for him. You can't stomp on the Termite!

Hello all, this is James Bergquist's daughter again. In December or January we are all switching over to a new server, and this account will be closed.
