When to complete FAA Form 337 (Major Repair and Alteration)

Hello everyone!

Been a while since I have even been able to browse through the forum. Lots of work, military and corporate coming through the door and we are getting ready to complete our Stage 1 AS9110 in a few weeks.

I had an interesting request from a customer yesterday...

they said they required an FAA Form 337 completed on each of the parts sent to them.

Does no one read or understand Part 43 Appendix A or Appendix B? :frust:

We are a FAR 145 Repair Station and we provide an 8130-3 and when applicable, an 8110-3 for R.T.S.

Just real aggravating, plus it takes quite a bit of time to fill out 6, 7, and 8 on the form, plus when I get it back from the customer, I'll have to submit that with-in 48 hrs.

I have never filled out a 337 in almost 10 years, but we also do not have any FAR 121 or 135 customers either.

Has anyone else ran into this before?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Marc; Hope all goes well with the surgery!

Thanks Marc :thanks: and yes I do.

We're Airframers and our Ops Spec rating is "Limited Airframe" so it's not like we are going to go out and do Prop work or calibrate radio equipment.

Usually, I have the most problem with Receiving Inspectors that are not up to speed on Appendix A and B. Appendix B, ? (3) is what they fail to see.

Just makes for a long day and I think I'm having some BP issues because of it.

Haven't ran into this before. Most customers are satisfied with an 8130-3. Based on the context of your post, it doesn't sound like they understand what a Form 337 is.

My recommendation would be to contact your FSDO and get their take on it. I definitely wouldn't just start issuing a large number of 337's without talking to them...

Yeah Jenkibm :bigwave:, I called my PMI and he said basically the same thing.

I have always tried to explain a 337 as a "Hanger Document". Sometimes they get it; sometimes I have to lead them by the hand.

I haven't gotten anything back, so maybe they decided they didn't need them, but a call would have been nice. I was kinda dreading a call from my FSDO asking what I was doing. :bonk:

Maybe they read up on it on the Cove?!

We have a Cessna 210 that has had some major mods for conversion into a surveillance aircraft....bubble window on the left side, camera attachment, remove rear seats and installed swivel surveillance chair, etc...we are removing all the mods and returning it to it's original factory condition type certificate. Replacing a good portion of the left side with new skin and brackets. Just how do I write the 337 for something like this? Will I have to get a field approval?
