Application and differences of OC Curve and Acceptance Sampling

my understanding is that,
OC curves :- arrive at a acceptable standard deviation for a given sample size - probability of passing - CI etc.,
Acceptance sampling :- arrive at a sample size for acceptable/rejectable defects AND define levels of sampling regimens of reduced, normal, enhanced etc

which one should we apply in our scenario; of statistically determining the acceptability of batch / process.

v9991 - are you performing on-going lot acceptance sampling, one time inspection of 1 to a few suspect lots or validation testing of a process or product?

do you have continouous (variables) data or categorical (attributes) data?

each of these scenarios will have a differnt sampling scheme.

which OC curve are you looking at or thinking about?

All acceptance sampling plans have an OC (Operating characteristic) curve. for any sample size and reject number we can construct an OC curve tthat will provide the probability of accepting (or rejecting) any given defect rate...

thank you you Bev D

Yes, it is for validation of process ....the idea is to have a statistically-significant(relevant) sampling & evaluation criteria", to confirm that process can deliver a product which will meeting predetermined requirements.

Mainly, we have a continuous variable; and but also certain attribute data are also involved!

we were actually looking for a criteria of selecting a particular OC curve !!! (viz., patient safety, process complexity, and process performance ie., dev data, and prior knowledge on unit operation) and since this is related to patient safety, i dont know if we can go by a thumb-rules!!! (i.e., 95 % CI vs 99% CI; 80% probability vs 95% probability!!!)
