NADCAP NDT (specifically RT) - Checklist AC7114 Rev. K, section 8.1.3

Good Day All!

Our organization is gearing up for a NADCAP audit for NDT, RT. I've gone through the checklist and I'm hung up on one item in particular.

Checklist AC7114 Rev. K, section 8.1.3 states a minimum of 3 points is to be checked when performing a calibration on an instrument. While I see why NADCAP would point this out (for linearity), I'd like to know if this requirement stems from a particular industry standard or is this requirement directly from our good folks at NADCAP?

I've searched through the referenced documents and have found nothing.

I would greatly appreciate the feedback!

Nadcap are not allowed to derive their own requirements, and checklist questions have to be based on an Engineering requirement. Note, an Engineering requirement, not necessarily an industry standard. I cannot speak for RT, but I know in MT that light meters have to be calibrated at three points - this was taken from a requirement found in a Prime NDT specification.

If in doubt, ask one of the Staff Engineers, they should be able to find out where the requirement came from.

Hope this helps.

I would obtain the Nadcap’s audit handbook for AC7114. The handbook typically indicates which standard or industry consensus the audit question was derived from.

BoardGuy, I tried searching for the handbook on PRI's eAuditnet. They don't seem to offer a handbook for audit guidelines to Nondestructive testing. Might you have any other thoughts on this?

NDT no longer have handbooks, though some other commodities do. The NDT handbooks used to contain guidance on how to achieve the requirements - this is now found in the CAG (compliance assessment guidance) associated with the relevant question.
