Where can I buy ISO-15223-1 CD with graphic symbols?

I am looking for this standard. I want the CD that contains the medical devices symbols, symbols that we want to print on labels. Anyone know where I can get that? thanks

There were some last minute changes to the 2016 version and BSI has held back the release. IHS says not available until June, Document Center is hoping this month... So pre-orders only right now. $275

You can purchase the graphics files and the rights to use them direct from ISO for $30 each (CHF and USD are at par right now). Of course people should care about copyright and not simply lift them from the standard or the ISO website.

Is the use of these symbols somehow restricted to people who've purchased them?

They're pretty simple. ...very easy to replicate/trace in Illustrator.
Is there anything restricting this practice?

Yes, the symbols are the IP of ISO and are copyrighted. To reproduce the symbol, even with slight change, and with the intention to act as the ISO symbol (eg international recognition) and for commercial use is copyright infringement. The reproduction would be "substantially similar."

ISO grants purchasers of the graphical symbols use "for the implementation of their respective ISO standard(s)" meaning in your literature, on the device, etc. - commercial use not including reselling the graphic file.

The publications (standards), sure. But these symbols?

I'm browsing the symbols through their Online Browsing Platform (OBP) (search: ISO 7000, under "Graphics and Symbols"), and am wondering: for any given symbol, where it says "Restricted Application: Yes/No", what does this mean?

I still find the idea that ISO has somehow copyrighted these symbols ridiculous. For example:

• Symbol 1603B is just an exclamation mark.
• Symbol 0422 is just a checkmark
• Symbol 0434B is the standard caution sign

Are they seriously saying that none of these can be used on equipment to designate a failure/malfunction, a ready/finished acknowledgement, or that caution must be taken, respectively, without first paying them money?

They are saying that. The shapes are precise. You won't see that exclamation point or tick in MS Word or InDesign, for example. While the effectiveness of the symbol might not be affected using a close "fake", you would clearly not be applying the standard and that could cause a problem with certification or approvals. We've come down hard on suppliers that have tried to use fakes.
