Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a specification or standard that requires ASTM or ISO standards for stainless steels to be referenced on manufacturer prints for medical devices. For instance, I have several prints that call out the material such as 301 SS or 18-8 SS but there is no ASTM is reference because these are off the shelf components that you can get from a McMaster Carr type distributor. As far as I can tell, the only ASTM that might be applicable is F899 but even then that is just a summary document of typical stainless steels and doesn't specifically state it needs to be listed on a print. Does anyone know of any other governing standards that would require this type of detail for medical devices that would be used in a surgical setting?
