Has anyone out there ever requested the registrar send a new auditor? ISO or TS
- how did it go

Re: Auditor

I did, during our certification audit we had serious problems with the second auditor, we made sure the lead auditor knew it (and he did because the second day, the second auditor was as sweet as candy).... after the audit was closed, I made a formal complaint to the CB and told them I did not wish to have that auditor visit us again.

No problem ! Remember, even though you are being audited, YOU are still their client !! You (your company) helps pay their salaries...

That is correct. But for TS-16949, there are rules that require an auditor from the certification audit to come back for the surveillance audits. So, in case the surveillance audits are to be done by only one auditor and the organization has a chemistry problem with that auditor, I believe that the CB would have to request a dispensation from the IATF before agreeing to send a different auditor. That is a TS nuance to the process.

In the "ISO World", CB's normally accommodate a request for an auditor re-assignment without much of a problem...

I did this years ago...last division I was at when we were still ISO, before QS. I sent, basically, a nonconformance type report outlining why we did not want the auditor in our facility. That was that. No problems.

(auditor showed up late, left early, complained constantly, audited us to a standard that we were not certified to)

We have done this three times and got new auditor each time (not for TS), but for 14001 and for 9001 audits. Honestly I think we have abused the priveledge. One of the auditors came back after a 10yrs and didn't write up a thing even though there were glaring NCs, no added value. Shame on us.

On our pre-assessment/readiness review audit for a combination registration to ISO 9001 & QS-9000, the lead auditor was less than ideal - could not/did not try to understand the main portion of our business and what made it unique versus more common methods of producing metals such as castings, forgings, wrought steels, etc. ( Our primary product is iron powder.) He also was demeaning to our female employees.

I wasn't head of the department, but I would have thrown him off the job after our pre-assessment, and requested a replacement by one of the other well qualified auditors who were part of the pre-assessment team. The decision was made to keep him through the initial assessment. After that was complete, we requested a change to lead auditor to one of the other team members. We also used that same team meember when we upgraded our system to ISO/TS 16949.

There were no issues with having the registrar replace the lead auditor with one of the tem members.

Happens quite frequently. You're the client as previously stated. Sometimes there is just a bad fit or personality clash. Shucks, I even got kicked off a site one time because they didn't like me.

Can you imagine that, somebody not liking me? :notme:
