Dear all,

Our company applies an anti-rust oil on parts shipping to overseas customer. As reported by the oil supplier, the anti-rust oil has a 82% weight portion consists of a volatile solvent which will vaporize in ambient temp. When we report MDS to our customer, we do not know exactly how much of the solvent will remains in the oil when the part reached customer side, so we reported the oil portion according to the supplier info. However, our MDS got rejected by the customer as they insist that less than 2% of the solvent will be left in the oil.

In such case, how should we report in MDS for volatile solvent ?

I had a very similar situation in the early days of MSDS reporting. The only thing I could do was report as my customer instructed, AND make sure that I kept a copy of the email which provided that instruction.
Its not the ideal solution, but it did get my PPAP approved and procesed through the system.
