IMDS - Creating an MDS out of material and a made item?

OK I need to create an MDS made up of a published material from our supplier and an internally produced part made out of the same material. What's the best way of doing it?

Put simply the part consists of a certain weight of raw material contained in a kind of manufactured container that consists only of the same material.

Part of me just wants to keep it simple by listing the total weight of the part as containing just the raw, supplied material.

The customer will only be interested in the infill, raw material so I reckon will reject it if I just put total weight in without splitting it into infill and container.

So do I create a component made out of the raw material then put it into the part and then add the infill material? I don't think this will work because you can't have component and material on The same level.

Any suggestions? I'm under pressure to submit a PPAP and this is the last part needed.

You have to create it using the IMDS material data system. IMDS | International Material Data System
If you haven't used it before you are going to have issues. You must create an account and then all of your suppliers that go into the part you are making have to submit the information for what they are contributing to the part to your IMDS#. Then you create your IMDS sheet by pulling all the information from your suppliers into the IMDS sheet. The only info you should be putting in is for the part you are manufacturing (finished product).

Yes I've used it before but always simple entries.

Just figured it out, I need to create a node which then allows a lower level to be used.

For example, component with a component or semicomponent then you add a node of the same level before adding a material. That's what I did.

The only issue is I used semi-component but I suspect component is better. I chose semi-component because there's going to be other parts made out of the same thing just made to different sizes. We've internally and with our customers given it a part reference. So I set it up based on kg per m2. I figure I can use it for all the similar parts. Trouble is there's a process after it's cut to length/area.

Just spotted it has gone to a full datasheet (-/1 not -/0.01 at the end). As soon as I see confirmation email I'll be happy.

BTW I proposed it as it'll go to one customer. I noticed proposed mds go to full version quickly. Is that down to s function of being proposed or just a very efficient customer IMDS approval process?

Proposing an MDS will immediately move it to a whole number version regardless of what the company you proposed it to does with it.

If you want to have the version change when your customer accepts (and they are the only customer you desire to see this) the preferred method would be to Send the MDS.
