Should Testing be a separate operation in the Control Plan?

We have here a test we preform, but it is outside the scope of the work done in the process.

My question is

Should those test methods be in the "methods portion of the CP, or should it be a separate process in the CP

Is this an off-line test? Is it monitoring, or are shipments held until the test is complete and accepted?

You have some flexibility here as long as it is clear.

While you didn't answer the other questions, I cover the different scenarios and how I would handle them. If the material is held pending the acceptable results of this off-line test, I would include it in the product control methods section for that operation and note that it is an off-line test. If it is simply a process monitoring test (not a product acceptance test), and material continues to flow through the process while the test is performed, I would show it in the process monitoring methods section. You can show it as a separate operation as long as you are clear and the people responsible understand their roles. Ultimately, its about the effectiveness of the control plan.
