Parts for ships or submarines aren't unique, they're just different. Different markets and customers might have varying requirements, but if you're referring to AIAG APQP, it's the same for everyone.

On the other hand, if you're referring to APQP in a more generic sense--quality planning in general--there are many possible methods. It's not clear what you're looking for.
Dear buddy ! I compared car-parts Vs. a huge ship or submarine ...

Re: What are APQP and PPAP?

There is no reason for the procedure to be different which ever industry is involved.
APQP is just another method of running a project with points to enable you to cover all aspects. Start with the idea APQP{ and adapt to the actual work and requirements that you need.

A huge ship or submarine isn't much different from an automobile except in scale, and the fact that there might be different customer requirements. How is a car part different from a ship part? APQP is still APQP. Are you familiar with the AIAG APQP methods?

Re: What are APQP and PPAP?

Hello,
in the first instance I would be tempted to say that "APQP is a simple tick list of tasks that need to be done to complete a process step".
The value is that the tick list can be refined each time the process is run to ensure improvement next time around. APQP is often found underpinning product development processes to ensure multiple tasks are done and not forgotten. Tasks completed vs tasks not completed can be measured to calculate project/process health.

APQP is a simple and effective tool for controlling very low volume processes.

Regards, Brian

Re: What are APQP and PPAP?

I realize this is an older post but I was recently looking for the same info. I eventually came across Eaton/Cooper Industries supplier training site which has great material on PPAP, APQP, and the associated forms. As an owner of a small business trying to get a better grasp on the expectations of my OEM customers...it was incredibly helpful. I assume others would find it useful as well...

Note: I would post the link but do have enough previous posts to have permission to do so. You should be able to find it with quick search.

The link to Cooper Industries Supplier Training site.
