What is the exact meaning of Single Fault condition?

Hi All,

Could anyone explain what is the exact meaning of Single fault condition.
I happen to encounter this terminology frequently in many IEC standards and I dont understand what it exactly means ?

I believe single fault condition is defined in the IEC 60601 standard. Have you looked there?

Hi Paul,
I have indeed looked into the definition section and Annex of the Standard 60601-1 and yes there was a definition given.
But unfortunately I couldnt understand it.
In fact I want its explanation in practical scenario, lets say for a electronic device how do we define Single Fault condition and how do we know which is Single Fault condition for a particular device.

So if any gentlemen could help me understand this !!!
