IATF16949 Second Location Certification

We are TS16949 accredited and shall be moving to the IATF version later this year.

Also this year we will also be opening a second manufacturing facility that is NOT line of site with the original site. The second site will 'only' manufacture components to feed the original site. It will operate under the present Quality Management System that will undergo development to achieve IATF... regardless.

My question is being as the 2nd site will operate under an approved QMS (our own) then does it need any certification at all? If so what, as it is only supplying 1 stage within the manufacturing process, but is not a new / different supplier?

Apart from 16949 we are also VDA 6.3 compliant.

Thanks

If you maintain the certification of the first site, the second site also needs a certification as an extended manufacturing site. It is defined in rules 5th edition.

"Client" shall be understood as the entire entity (including all related manufacturing sites and remote supporting locations) applying for IATF 16949 certification.

If you want to treat it as a new supplier you have to sell it to another company so that both sites are not the same entity.
