Video Example of Quick Setup

I'm starting SMED training with our CNC department and would like to show my guys a video of a successful SMED project. We do alot of extremely challenging parts, and the general attitude is no one can do what we do. I see at least a 10x improvement opportunity here, and the whole quick set up concept will be more readily accepted if they see it first.

Any links?

Re: Video example of quick set-up

It's not quite the same, but perhaps a video of a tire change for a race car would be helpful. Changing a tire is a 10 minute ordeal for most people. NASCAR does it in - what - 20 seconds? And Indy cars are even quicker!

At least they will see that a task can be done MUCH quicker when you have the right tools and the right plan.

Even better would be an F1 pit stop in about 7 seconds! However, they do have about 20 guys working on the car.

My set up guys all understand the concept and especially a pit stop. I'd just like to show them something machine related.

Ford actually made a Lean Video a few years back using the Nascar tire change.
Ford will lend the video to anyone from their library, all you need to do is contact them.

How about something like this: Quick Changeover Video?

You could also do a search on YouTube and download the video from there. You'll need a piece of software to do it, but that can be found for free at Download.com (I think you need to be able to capture a "FLV" file which is the Flash format).

There's a description of the DVD Wayne links to here:

I was going to suggest taking some video of a normal changeover process and then showing in fast-forward mode. :tg:

That's not a bad idea to show how many times they walk away from the work area.

Thanks all for the input. I'm really surprised there is nothing on YouTube for SMED setups. Must be a closely held secret...

Try the following (I didn't actually watch them, just did a quick search):

It's all in the wording...... :)
