Hi All,
I am a quality manager for a German owned company operating in Ireland and have recently been drafted onto to our "Energy Team" to help document a EnMS for our upcoming stage 1 assessment. I am struggling with legal requirements section and I am looking for hints, advice or examples on how to approach this subject

Gary,

If your EnMS is an extension of your Environmental Management System then you could extend its process for "deploying legal requirements to the management system" to include any energy relevant statutes and regulations.

If not, you could work with your subject matter expert (aka Process Owner) to analyze how your company actually plugs into the sources of legal requirements and then assesses how these affect the organization before updating the management system's processes. Several disciplines may be the experts ensuring compliance to legal requirements specific to their discipline. It is part of their competence.

This process usually ends with the specialist or specialists conducting evaluations of compliance. Of course, the objective of this process is something along the lines of "assure compliance by using and improving the XYZ Management System" (where XYZ is the name of your company).

Employees generally should not have to consult the actual statute or regulation. They should be able to rely on their management system for compliance.

Good luck,

John
