Re: Surveillance Audit of 2008 before Transition Audit to ISO 9001:2015

Hi - only joined forum yesterday therefore late reply to this question.

Regarding the assessment, as per previous comments any ISO9001 surveillance or recertification started on or after 15th April 2018 has to be performed against the 2015 standard. Whether additional time is now required will depend to an extent on which areas were scheduled to be assessed during the audit (obviously does not apply during a recertification as all areas of the business are reviewed).

The reason being is your auditor needs to ensure that during the surveillance/transition assessment that the changes between ISO9001:2008 & :2015 have been appropriately incorporated into the QMS in addition to reviewing the remainder of the plan. This said in agreement with your CB the plan may be amended to ensure there is sufficient time without increasing the mandays if not all areas are assessed as per the plan during this audit but are then covered during future assessments within your certification cycle.

Previous to the IAF ruling of the 15th March date, CBs were completing a 2008 audit followed by the transition audit. This was done to avoid the risk of putting the organisation's approval at risk due to Major NCR being raised against a ISO2015 requirement.

Apologies for long response - Spvdj

Thank you for the response, it is clear now.

It is still not clear how this would influence the the number of surveillance days needed for the audit.

If my re-certification audit was done during March 2017 and still haven't done the surveillance, would the transition audit days count towards the total audit days required?

Hi Randy,

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

Today the Lead Assessor sent an email stating that the surveillance is for 2008 and transition is for 2015. This absolutely doesnt make any sense whatsoever to me.

Could you please clarify that it shouldn't be the case?
I'm not Randy, but I believe I understand what is going on.

This is mostly dotting i's and crossing t's.

You are still working on the "cycle" of your certificate which called for the 2008 surveillance. Transition activities will occur as well, again on paper.

The logic (and hopefully reality) is that everything will be reviewed against the 2015 requirements.

I hope that helps.

P.S. You will get a new cert issued, too. It will say ISO 9001:2015.

After extensive discussion with our CB, seems like that is what is going to happen. Thank you.

They do want to count the surveillance days so that they can keep the old cert in case there is a major NCR for 2015.

It's not like "that" much changes in the 2015 standard. If you have a major for 2015, why wouldn't it apply to 2008 as well. I suppose if you completely blew off the leadership stuff.
