In September 2015, the United Nations adopted the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the year 2030, setting an ambition for a safe and sustainable future for everyone, and especially for the less privileged passengers aboard ‘Spaceship Earth’.
The 17 goals provide a global framework for action. Governments, organizations and individuals everywhere are indeed starting to act. But even as the positive momentum builds, it is wise to take stock and consider what it will take to fulfil the goals. Are they achievable? Everywhere? What is the scale of the challenge? How can business take action? These are questions we have set out to answer in our forecast.

To road-test our forecast, we used it to assess the likelihood of humanity achieving each of the 17 SDGs by 2030. The report doesn't just focus on our forecast for reaching the SDGs; it also dives into private sector solutions for attaining them. For each SDG, we highlight a company pioneering progress towards the goals.

We added this ‘solutions’ element in dialogue with the UN Global Compact, an initiative encouraging businesses worldwide to contribute towards a sustainable future by adopting sustainable and socially responsible policies.
