My company supplies standard catalogue items to all kinds of customers and industries worldwide. The products are made in the UK, low technology, stainless steel components of our own design. Many are sold through distributors, we do not always know the final customer and rarely know details of the application.
One of our long standing customers is an American aircraft manufacturer which has suddenly asked us to "warrant that all deliverables under any subsequent purchase orders are under the Licensing Jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce".
I have asked the customer what the consequences are for us but can't get an explanation. They are not the sole customer for this part.
Has anyone else come across this requirement or can clarify what the Department of Commerce involvement might be?
