Difference between Management System and QMS (Quality Management System)

In 5.9 recertification audit of RULES for achieving IATF recognition for ISO/TS, it says" the recerification audit shall include an on-site audit that addresses:
d) the effective interaction between all the processes defined in the quality management system and the overall effectiveness of the management system"

What's the difference between the two?

If I am not wrong, there is another similar question in the forum but I do not remember the thread.
However, QMS is related to identified processes by the organization to manage quality, while management systems are related to the other systems, I mean security, safety, environment, business processes etc...
The auditor shall assess the harmonization of these and the effective relation among them.
Hope this helps:bigwave:

Re: Difference between management system and QMS

I posted the same question before but not exactly what I want to know.
Now, we are talking about The Rules for achieving IATF recognition for ISO/TS 16949, it is obviously no reason to mention other standards. AND when talking about the purpose of initial audit, surveillance audit and recertification audit, the RULES mention the management system of the client instead of QMS. So I guess, it should be the same as QMS untill I read 5.9.

Regarding to the safety, or enviornment ..., the TS auditors are not authorised to audit other system(s), because it is beyond their qualication.

Unless your standard has different definitions for 'Quality management system' and 'management system,' or reference to those specific definitions elsewhere, then you must interpret the clause.

My interpretation is:

the effective interaction between all the processes defined in the quality management system and the overall effectiveness of it

In principle you are correct, but have you paid attention to paragraph 6.4.1? They start delving into occupational health & safety...big mistake, in my opinion.

Re: Difference between management system and QMS

In IATF Auditor Guide for TS, I found this:
10 Describe the Rules Stage 1 Readiness Review requirements (including that the 12 months audit and management review evidence may be a mix of other standards (ISO, VDA) and TS).
Maybe this is the reason.
