ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems - Requirements

Hi Folks,

I have a question regarding the energy baseline (4.4.4).

ISO 50001 requires that "the energy baseline(s) shall be maintained and recorded".

I thought a lot about it, and I cannot figure it out: How do you maintain a baseline?

Any hint or advice would be great.

Thanks a lot!

Energy baseline is a quantitative reference that you achieved in a specified period (year) and against which you will be comparing your year-on-year energy performance. Baseline energy consumption can also be considered as an internal benchmark upon which your Energy Performance Indicators would base. However, you yourself has to decide and declare (record) the baseline.

Maintaining energy baseline means you will not change the baseline energy consumption (e.g. xx kWh/ unit product) as well as the period (e.g. 2010) to which it refers. The baseline is also used to evaluate the effectiveness of the projects/ management programmes implemented in order to reduce the significant energy/ env. aspects.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Can organization develop required documents like Energy policy, baseline, PIs, Training, MR, Internal Audit and Management review to be certified and continue with its Energy review, preparation of energy plan and health check of plan maintenance as well as equipment for further improvement?

Everything has to be complete and functioning with required supporting records in place

Hi Covers !

this is a lot of interesting information. I am definitely thinking of getting into ISO 50001. I'll share feedback and questions managing my way through

Starting to get Involved
After implementing this EnMS standard, today i can demonstarte no contigency plan is required only performance monitroing is required for key parameter/Variables which effects energy performance as identified. so no need to place emergency plan just in EMS we do..

I am glad to discuss it further.

Dear

Is there any difference between the energy review which is mentionned in the ISO50001 and the energy audit ?

what is the difference between these 2 terms please?

Thank you

Energy review is different from an audit. The energy review is a process of collection of data used to profile the energy situation of your organization. It should provide enough information to support other planning activities and decisions.

The inputs to Energy Review may include:
- Current Energy sources,
- Analysis of past Energy use and energy consumption,
- Analysis of present Energy use and energy consumption,
- Estimates of future Energy use and energy consumption,
- Significant Energy uses,
- Current performance of the processes, systems, equipment and facilities associated with the significant energy uses,
- Relevant variables that affect the significant energy uses (e.g. line losses, equipment efficiency, moisture levels, climatic conditions, start up/ shut down energy use, etc.
- Opportunities for improving energy performance

Hope this helps.

Thank you for The reply.

Then the Analysis of present Energy use and energy consumption is a result of an Energy Audit?

Does The energy review include always a mandatory energy audit ?
